I've been thinking some more about America in the face of an ascendant China. I've found a little more optimism in myself.
If there's any concern that the new world order poses a threat to the safety of the United States, we can regroup our military defenses to defend the safety of the United States. We invest hugely in our military might, but only so much of it is oriented truly toward defense. And again, we're a nuclear power. Any existential threat to the United States becomes an existential treat to the enemy of the US.
American should not in the face of rising China lose its freedomist orientation. If we are no longer the strongest and richest country, we can still renew ourselves as the most free. And we can continue as the world's leading innovator, with the world's best and brightest drawn toward freedom and away from tyranny.
